There may come a time when you or a loved one may need to be admitted to a hospital. If you are confusing and somewhat frightening for someone not familiar with how they work. In general, there are two major types of hospital admissions, emergent and elective.
Emergent usually happen when a patient seen in the emergency department is subsequently admitted to the hospital.
Elective hospital admissions occur when a doctor requests a bed be reserved for a patient on a specific day.
What Do I Bring?
You will only need essential items, such as:
- Any equipment used in your care (i.e., crutches, prosthetics, hearing aids, eyeglasses, etc.)
What Shouldn’t I Bring?
- Large sums of money. Please do not keep more than $5 in your room.
- Jewelry. If you are admitted without advance preparation, ask family members or friends to take home your jewelry.
- Other valuables. For safety reasons, electronics, laptops, iPods and iPads should not be kept in your possession while in the hospital. Intermed Hospital is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
